Both men and women like to wear earrings. Actually, these pieces were regarded as the most important kinds of jewelry since prehistoric times. They represent flair, style, and personal statements. The types of earrings vary depending on the wearer; but the two main classes are the clip-on and the pierce-on. Clip-on earrings are made with tension clips, screw-in posts, or spring attachments to pinch the earlobes. They are sort of like the ear cuffs which are crooked bands of metal that are pressed onto the ears. However, the clip-on earrings lost their popularity when the pierce-on earrings were introduced in the 1970s. Fortunately, these types of earrings have recently made a comeback.
Nevertheless, new types of earrings have recently evolved from these two main classes. Among them are dangle, slave, magnetic, stick-on, hoop, and stud earrings. Both women and men wear stud earrings. These types of earrings seem to float on their earlobes or ears with no visible points of connection. Studs are continually constructed at a post’s end. They get straight across through the ears. In addition, men usually prefer pieces that show their masculinity. So, small gold or silver hoops are also popular. Men also wear pieces with spikes, double-ended barbells, or plugs. The adventurous ones even wear spacer plugs instead of the normal kinds.
Hoops are the types of earrings that are designed in semi-circular or circular fashion. They are very much similar to rings. However, they are usually made from metal tubing. Such hollow tubing is placed in front of the ear and permanently attached to the wire. Then, it slips into the tube at the back. Some hoops are in perfect circle while others are left incomplete. Sleeper earrings are other types of earrings. They are, however, categorized under hoop earrings. They are usually worn during the night to prevent the ear piercings from closing. Also, there are spring hoops. These pieces are very muck like hoop earrings. In fact, they are found to be quite identical with each other.
Then, there are dangles. These types of earrings are often designed to dangle from the earlobes. They are attached to the ear by means of small hooks. The French hook designs do not have closures; but sometimes, little plastic retainers are placed at the ends of the hooks. These pieces are available in various lengths. Some are short while others are long. Some even reach the shoulders. These types of earring are perfect for night parties and social gatherings, especially if they are made of Swarovski crystals and other precious stones. Then again, they can also be worn during daytime or on casual events. Slave earrings, on the other hand, are the types of earrings that are often worn by Indian women to formal occasion like weddings.
