This lovely 14k yellow gold rivière necklace is set with 27 oval amethysts, each encircled by a border of filigree decorations. One of the links cleverly hides the box clasp. Each amethyst measures 8 x 6 mm and has an estimated weight of 1 carat, which makes their combined weight circa 27 carats.
This type of necklace was very popular in The Netherlands in the early 20th Century. Their relatively short length means that they are meant to be worn high up in the neck, close to the collar bone.
