This 14kt yellow gold brooch is set with numerous rose-cut diamonds in silver settings. Traditionally, diamonds were set in silver because this would enhance their colour and brilliance, while the gold back would prevent the silver from tarnishing and staining skin or clothing. All diamonds have been placed in open settings, allowing light to pass through the stones.

The brooch depicts the Chinese ‘Fu’ character, which stands for good luck, good fortune, and blessing. Sometimes it also means happiness. It is most popularly used during the Chinese New Year celebrations, when the character is hung upside down on the entrances of many Chinese homes, to literally rain down happiness upon the family. ⠀
