19th Century Rose-Cut Diamond Bird Brooch

This charming 14k yellow gold and silver brooch is shaped like a bird in mid-flight. Its body and wings are set with a combination of old-cut and rose-cut diamonds. The difference in these cuts creates a difference in texture that emulates the feathers of a bird perfectly. All diamonds are placed in open settings, allowing light to pass through. Traditionally, diamonds were set in silver to optimize their brilliance and colour, while the rest of the jewel would be from gold to prevent the silver from tarnishing and potentially staining skin or clothing.
