This impressive cameo pendant is crafted from a banded agate specimen. It depicts a hunting Cupid, who has his bow and arrow ready to strike. The carving is masterfully executed in high relief, showing minute details like the string around Cupid’s waist that likely holds his quiver, and his finely defined curls. The pendant is completed with a platinum jump ring, set on one side with three tiny rose-cut diamonds.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Size: 31 x 25 x 11 mm, excluding the jump ring.
Weight: 11.10 grams.
Age: Early 19th Century, circa 1800; the bale was likely added later, around 1900.
Material: The bale was acid-tested as platinum.
Condition: In great antique condition with some minor wear, consistent with age. There is a circular indentation in the back of the pendant, which suggests that it was originally mounted to a different jewel. I would not be surpised if it was originally worn as a brooch, and converted into a pendant at a later date.
