The arrow and quiver are famously the weapons of Cupid, who uses his arrows to pierce a heart and make its victim fall in love. In the mid 19th Century, and well up to the first half of the 20th Century, brooches shaped like arrows, quivers, or a combination of the two were a popular design, often gifted between lovers, signaling that you were not insusceptible to Cupid’s wishes.
